Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga

1. The lord of the sign of exaltation of the debilitated planet is in a kendra to Lagna or Moon. For example, if Mercury is debilitaed in Pisces, the Mercury itself which is the lord of Virgo, the sign of its exaltation, should be in a kendra to Lagna or Moon. Thus, Mercury attains neechabhanga if eithe lagna or chandra is in any of the dual signs. It is for this purpose you find that dual signs give good communication abilities and produce many writers etc. Another example: If Saturn is debilitaed in Aries, then if Venus, the lord of Libra its sign of exaltation is in a kendra to the Lagna or Moon, Saturn gets neecha bhanga or cancellation of debility.

2. The lord of the sign of debility of the debilitated planet is in a kendra to Lagna or Moon. This is the concept of the dispositor of the planet, and if the dispositor of a debilitated planet is in a Kendra to Lagna or Moon, then neecha bhanga occurs. This is also an important part of the Kalpa Druma Yoga where the dispositor of the strong lagna lord is required to be in a kendra to lagna. In such a case, when the naive approaches someone for help, when in trouble or in debility, help is sure to come.

3. The debilitated planet occupies its exaltation sign in the Navamsa chart. Every sign has nine Navamsa, Saturn is debilitated in Aries and the seventh Navamsa is that of Libra, its exaltation sign. Thus, if Saturn were to be between 20-23.20 degrees in Aries, neechabhanga is automatic. This implies that the native has done some very good dharmic karma in the past birth bring ing forth the blesings of Bhagavan and hence his debilitated condition or troubles are forgiven and he gets relief.

4. The sign where the planet is in debility is conjoined another planet which gets exalted in that sign. It pays to have powerful friends and associates and a planet in debility, if conjoined another planet in exaltation leads to a situation where the troubled soul meets another who is exalted and powerful or the person who is best suited to help him out. Sheer luck you may call those situations or just coincidence is what many people say. In one case, a businessman was about to be kicked out of all his businesses and as he waited at the airport, he had the acquaintance of the chairman of a bank. They discussed and then the businessman revealed his problem. The Chairman cancelled his flight and went back to office the next day and gave him a loan. The businessman went on to purchase controlling shares and grow into a big business house.

Such Rajyoga do not occur with every neechabhanga, and at least a few of the factors cited above have to occur. further, all planets do not get neechabhanga by all the four methods. As a study, examine the debility of each planet and see the peculiar situations that cause its exaltations and the lessons they hold

On Saturn's Transit into Libra this year

As per Brihat samhitha of Varahamihira:

When Saturn transits Hasta: barbers, potters, oil manufacturers, thieves, physcians, tailors(needle workers),elephant catchers, harlots the people of kosala country and garland makers (florists) come to harm.
The transit is happenning currently.
When Saturn transits Chitta :Trouble befalls women, writers, painters and painted vessels.

When Saturn is in Swati rhapsodists(or bards or the people of Magadha),spies, couriers, chariteers or story tellers, sailors, actors, muscians are effected.

Transits this year

This year we have already seen the transits of Jupiter into
Aries,Rahu/Ketu into Scorpio/Taurus and Opposition of Jupiter and
Saturn.

The most important transit to happen this year is that of Saturn from
November 15th into its exaltation sign Libra.

This is the time for natives to be born with strong Sasa Yoga which
has a benefic aspect of Jupiter from a friendly sign. Natives with a
strong Sasa Yoga will be proficient in appeasing people and be the
leaders of the masses.More so when they are born with Moon in
Cancer,as that will form a strong Gaja Kesari Yoga with Jupiter in
Aries.

On an individual level every one of us will be witnessing a sea change
in our lives depending upon the Ashtakavarga strength of Saturn and
also the position of the same from the natal moon.

People of Leo rasi will be out of Yelinati sani and will have much
relief.People of Virgo,Libra and Vrischika will be under going the
Yelinati Sani period.

In this context i would like to mention that people having SAV
strength of 30 or more in Libra will not experience the bad effects of
the mentioned period.

It is said that Saturn will be starting to give effects 6 months from
before entering a raasi. So the changes are already ongoing. We should
observe ourselves.

As per Varahamihira's Brihat samhitha Writers/authors will be effected
with the transit of Saturn into Libra.

Another important transit is Mars going geo stationary for about 8
months from  October 29th.Developments in our State should be observed
as Mars effects South India in general and Andhra Pradesh in specific.

Yama and Nachiketa

- Swami Vivekananda
This, the Katha Upanishad, speaks in very figurative language. There was, in ancient times, a very rich man, who made a certain sacrifice which required that he should give away everything that he had. Now, this man was not sincere. He wanted to get the fame and glory of having made the sacrifice, but he was only giving things which were of no further use to him—old cows, barren, blind, and lame. He had a boy called Nachiketas.
This boy saw that his father was not doing what was right, that he was breaking his vow; but he did not know what to say to him. In India, father and mother are living gods to their children. And so the boy approached the father with the greatest respect and humbly inquired of him, “Father, to whom are you going to give me? For your sacrifice requires that everything shall be given away.” The father was very much vexed at this question and replied, “What do you mean, boy? A father giving away his own son?” The boy asked the question a second and a third time, and then the angry father answered, “Thee I give unto Death (Yama).” And the story goes on to say that the boy went to Yama, the god of death.
Yama was the first man who died. He went to heaven and became the governor of all the Pitris; all the good people who die, go, and live with him for a long time. He is very pure and holy person, chaste and good, as his name (Yama) implies.
So the boy went to Yama’s world. But even gods are sometimes not at home, and three days this boy had to wait there. After the third day Yama returned. “O learned one,” said Yama, “you have been waiting here for three days without food, and you are a guest worthy of respect. Salutation to thee, O Brahmin, and welfare to me! I am very sorry I was not at home. But for that I will make amends. Ask three boons, one for each day.”
And the boy asked, “My first boon is that my father’s anger against me may pass away; that he will be kind to me and recognise me when you allow me to depart.” Yama granted this fully.
The next boon was that he wanted to know about a certain sacrifice which took people to heaven. Now we have seen that the oldest idea which we got in the Samhita portion of the Vedas was only about heaven where they had bright bodies and lived with the fathers. Gradually other ideas came, but they were not satisfying; there was still need for something higher. Living in heaven would not be very different from life in this world. At best, it would only be a very healthy rich man’s life, with plenty of sense-enjoy-ments and a sound body which knows no disease. The heaven solution commits this mistake; it insists that the whole of phenomena is only in touch, taste, sight, etc. So this idea of heaven did not give full satisfaction to all. Yet Nachiketas asks, as the second boon, about some sacrifice through which people might attain to this heaven. There was an idea in the Vedas that these sacrifices pleased the gods and took human beings to heaven.
Then the third boon comes, and with that the Upanishad proper begins. The boy said, “There is this difficulty: when a man dies some say he is, others that he is not. Instructed by you I desire to understand this.”
But Yama was frightened. He had been very glad to grant the other two boons. Now he said, “The gods in ancient times were puzzled on this point. This subtle law is not easy to understand. Choose some other boon, O Nachiketas, do not press me on this point, release me.”
The boy was determined, and said, “What you have said is true, O Death, that even the gods had doubts on this point, and it is no easy matter to understand. But I cannot obtain another exponent like you and there is no other boon equal to this.”
Death said, “Ask for sons and grandsons who will live one hundred years, many cattle, elephants, gold, and horses. Ask for empire on this earth and live as many years as you like. Or choose any other boon which you think equal to these—wealth and long life. Or be thou a king, O Nachiketas, on the wide earth. I will make thee the enjoyer of all desires. Ask for all those desires which are difficult to obtain in the world. These heavenly maidens with chariots and music, which are not to be obtained by man, are yours. Let them serve you, O Nachiketas, but do not question me as to what comes after death.”
Nachiketas said, “These are merely things of a day, O Death, they wear away the energy of all the sense-organs. Even the longest life is very short. These horses and chariots, dances and songs, may remain with Thee. Man cannot be satisfied by wealth. Can we retain wealth when we behold Thee? We shall live only so long as Thou desirest. Only the boon which I have asked is chosen by me.”
Yama was pleased with this answer and said, “Perfection is one thing and enjoyment another; these two having different ends, engage men differently. He who chooses perfection becomes pure. He who chooses enjoyment misses his true end. Both perfection and enjoyment present themselves to man; the wise man having examined both distinguishes one from the other. He chooses perfection as being superior to enjoyment, but the foolish man chooses enjoyment for the pleasure of his body. O Nachiketas, having thought upon the things which are only apparently desirable, thou hast wisely abandoned them.” Death then proceeded to teach Nachiketas.
Yama said, “That which is beyond never rises before the mind of a thoughtless child deluded by the folly of riches. `This world exists, the other does not,’ thinking thus they come again and again under my power. To understand this truth is very difficult. Many, even hearing it continually, do not understand it, for the speaker must be wonderful, so must the hearer. The teacher must be wonderful, so must be the taught. Neither is the mind to be disturbed by vain arguments, for it is no more a question of argument, it is a question of fact.”
Yama answers the question: “What becomes of a man when the body dies?” “This Wise One never dies, is never born, It arises from nothing, and nothing arises from It. Unborn, Eternal, Everlasting, this Ancient One can never be destroyed with the destruction of the body. If the slayer thinks he can slay, or if the slain thinks he is slain, they both do not know the truth, for the Self neither slays nor is slain.”

Astrology and faith - By Sri KN Rao

By K.N. Rao, from Astrology and Faith, Intro

The astrologer is not a doctor. He should keep himself within the limits of his own vidya (knowledge) and not pose as a miracle worker.

What Maharishi Parashara has suggested is some stotra recitation, charity etc. In any scheme of faith cure, prayer to God is primary. It should be done according to the religion one belongs to. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains etc. have done it sincerely, with deep faith, and have stories of fully successful or half successful cures to report. These claims should be closely examined astrologically by an astrologer, and medically by a doctor. It is a double explanation of such phenomena that will restore faith and keep intact a belief in a good system of medicine and prayer - BOTH.

The astrologer is aware of Prarabdha (destined karma) in human life and knows that in some cases nothing can be done. Doctors generally keep treating a patient even when they know that it is a case without any hope because they have to, because they are paid for it or because they are greedy. Astrologers also prescribe very costly remedies and keep exploiting their clients. But then it will not solve your problem. What is the answer? Surrender to the lord in whatever form you worship him. Believe in prayer to God and surrender to Him. Does it solve the problem? The answer is mostly yes, if you pray honestly and lead an honest life. There are cases when nothing worked, there are cases when it worked partly, and there are cases where it worked like a miracle. It is better to try the well known spiritual method, remedy of honest prayer and increase your tapobalam (spiritual strength).

The Suggested Steps are:

1. If the patient can pray himself it is best as I did in 2000 when doctors in Delhi and Lucknow said that I would never be able to walk again. I took no medicines. I did my japam, Vishnu Sahasranam, Narayana Kavacham, and did some exercises. In two years I was able to walk without a walker, climb stairs both in my own house and the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

2. If the patient is unable to pray himself as happens in some cases, someone in the family who loves him and who is interested in his getting cured, sincerely, should do it.

3. There are cases when the entire family prays and what happens after that is described as a miracle by all.

4. In some cases where a kamakandi pandit is asked to do it. Make sure that the pandit knows karmakanda properly and is pure, spiritually disciplined and not greedy. These days, it is like asking for the impossible.

5. There are cases where Mahatmas have showered their grace on a patient and cured him or her. These are rare but very amazing.

In short, what is being suggested through these case studies (in the book, Astrology and Faith), is - never stop praying whatever the circumstance.

Saturn's Ashtakavarga

1.If Saturn occupies Lagna devoid of bindus in his own ashtakavarga, there will be either death or loss of wealth and suffering.
2.If Saturn,invested with 1 to 4 bindus,is in a kendra or is exalted,one will have short life.
3.When Saturn is in lagna, associated with 5 or 6 bindus, one will meet with all sorts of worries, financial upsets, etc from birth. If however Saturn associated with 5 or 8 bindus is debilitated or in an inimical sign, one will have a long life.
4.If Saturn is associated with 8 bindus, the native becomes head of a village panchayat or a muncipal commissioner or a mayor,if with 7 bindus,he will earn money by trade and allied activities.
5.If saturn is powerfully disposed in lagna, associated with 4 or 5 bindus one will always lead a life of sorrow, begging alms and suffering in travails.
6.When saturn is debilitated in navamsa and endowed with 5 or more bindus occupies lagna or the 5th house, one suffers from laryngeal troubles and poverty.
7.one will not live long but will become fortunate if saturn, endowed with 4 bindus but not exalted or occupying own house,is in lagna or the 4th.
8.If saturn endowed with 5 or more bindus is in a debilitated sign is occupying and exalted/own navamsa, one will live long, and possessed of wealth and happiness.
9.There will be influx of wealth through various sources,if saturn, endowed with 1 to 3 bindus,in his own house or navamsa, occupying a a quadrant or a trine.
10.kingship or an equal status will be the result when saturn as lord of 9th and 10th has 1 to 3 bindus and occupies the 3rd,6th or 11th house.

Ashtakavarga System - Some Observations

An analysis of the Bhava chalita chart along with Ashtakavarga  gives an excellent insight into the native's life. In continuation to my earlier post in this context i would like to put forth my experience on the use of this system.I can definitely say, simply reading the Sarvashtaka varga and the Bhinnashtakavarga scores one can easily determine the life pattern of the native in various perspectives  whose chart is under study.

My preferences :
Software: Jagannatha Hora
House system : Lagna is the middle point of the first house
and Parasara's ashtaka varga principles.
(Default Jagannatha Hora settings)

I prefer to first, have a look at the Sarvaashtaka varga of the Bhava Chalita Chart and decide upon the class of the chart.

The pointers to look for in any chart under study:

1.Sarvaashtakavarga scores of  each of the bhavas are to be looked upon to see which bhava is the strongest and which is the weakest. The bhavas having weakest scores are the areas where the native will suffer in his life time. When will the effects be felt will have to be studied as per the transits and Vimsottari Dasa  or the applicable conditional dasas.

If  the 10 th house has 40 or more points the native is definitely going to have positive results in his career. But if we study the 5th house of Power, along with the 10th house and if that too contains 40 points we can deduce the native  will be in a high profile profession. The natives who have this kind of a combination are generally observed to be in Politics or IAS /IPS etc.

In this context i would like to add that the concept of Bhavath Bhavam is very useful.I mean wealth of the spouse can be studied from the 8th as it is the 2nd house from the 7th. 8th house is also studied for longevity, debts, diseases, ill fame etc.If the house has more than 35 score then we can say that the spouse of the native will be moderately wealthy. If the native has 40 points in his second bhava and the 8 th house has 35 points then we can deduce that the native is more wealthier than his spouse.

Also if the SAV strength of the Lagna is 35 and the same for the third bhava is 40, then the brother of the native will definitely be better than the native.

If the SAV Strength of the 9th bhava is above 40 points signifies that the religious inclination of the native will be very high.

2.Bhinnashtakavarga scores of each planet

The Sum of the Bhinnaashtakavarga strengths of  Jupiter and Saturn if both put together  is more than 8, then the native will be having more than satisfactory results overall in his life time,as both planets are the most influential planets in any horoscope.
As per Krushna's Ashtakavarga system the planet having more than 4 points in its bhinnashtakavarga are to be treated as benefic/exalted planets irrespective of their placement.

Bhinnashtakavarga scores also help in determining the nature of results the planet is inclined to give in its Vimsottari dasa. The planet having 6 points in its BAV will give results of an exalted planet its dasa. How ever this has to be studied along with other indicators like Ishta-Kashta Phala etc

The above pointers give an insight into the life of the native as a whole.

Ashtakavarga and Planetary Transits:
Studying transits is not complete with out considering the bhinnashtakavarga strength of the planet under study. For example: If Saturn is transiting Aries and if it is 8th house from moon, its debilitation raasi and Saturn has 4 points in Aries, then we can deduce that Saturn is beneficial in 4 kakshyas  out of the 8 kakshyas in raasi even though the transit of 8 th house is very bad. Saturn will be beneficial in the kakshyas of the planets who have contributed a point in that raasi.

The sum of the Bhinnashtakavarga score of  Jupiter and Saturn in the raasis in which they are in transit, gives the level of positive or negative trends in the natives life in that period. For example: Jupiter has 5 points in Aries where it is currently transiting and Saturn has 5 points in Virgo where it is currently transiting, the sum is 10 out of 16 which is 62.5% favourable trends in the current transit.

Ashtakavarga and Rasi Dasas
The SAV Score of the raasi whose dasa is running will greatly help in quantifying the results of that rasi.

Ashtakavarga and Divisional charts:

In my experience, the ashtakavarga system seems to work very well in the divisional charts too.For example, if Saturn is transiting a raasi containing 40 points in the D16 chart and has BAV of 4 points or more, the native will definitely acquire a vehicle.

What happened to Dorji Khandu - CM of Arunachal Pradesh ???

As per the planetary placements at the time of take off of the helicopter, the helicopter should have caught fire and exploded in the mid air due to technical snag, killing all the people. And after exploding, the remains should have crashed near the Border to China.

This is the chart drawn for the helicopter take off time of Mr.Dorji Khandu on Saturday 30.04.2011 at 09.50 AM.

Ascendant was Karkataka. The Ascendant lord Moon is very weak in shadbala even though in the 9th house which is acually a good place of the ascendant lord to be.As per classics, if lagna lord is in 9th house the native will travel to a foreign place.

If the planetary placements and aspects are checked at the time of take off, Moon, the ascendant lord is with Jupiter,Mars,Venus  and Mercury in Pisces.

Jupiter and Mars are in conjunction just away from each other by about 2 degrees. Jupiter signifies Akaasa Tatwa and Mars signifies Agni tatwa.Mars is the karaka for the fire accidents.

Mercury is in debilitation. Mercury signifies communication.

There is an opposition between Saturn which is retrograde and Venus.Venus is the significator for Luxurious Vehicles. And Saturn is a malefic for this Ascendant by being the 7th and 8 th lord

The most important aspect to note is, the Ascendant lord Moon is conjunct with Uranus(Indra Graha) and is just away by 1 degree from it. Uranus signifies all the Technical Issues and is in Visha dagdhaamsa in Shastyamsa which is bad.

Apart from Mercury, the other 3 planets which are in Pisces along with Moon are inimical towards the Ascendant lord Moon. Mercury was neutral to Moon but is in debilitation.Significantly all the Planets are in the star of Mercury.Being in the star of Mercury, they give the result of debilitated Mercury as Mercury is debilitated in Pisces. Mercury is a malefic for this ascendant being the 3rd and 12th lord. The twelth house and its lord signify accidents.
