Today is Vaisakha Krishna Tritiya till 18:18 and Chaturdhi later. Since it is Chaturdhi at the time of Moon rise, today evening is observed as Ekadantha Sankshta Chaturdhi. Those who observe Sankashta Chaturdhi do special poojas in the evening after moon rise.
Moon rise today is at 21:15. Chaturdhi starts at 18:18 and runs till 16:08 on May 9th , tomorrow.
Sankashta Chaturdhi Vrat is done as follows :
Morning after bath Ganapathi mantra " Om Gam Ganapataye Namah" is to be chanted for 108 times. Fasting should be done. In the evening Ganesha Shodasopachara pooja has to be done and nivedan of Modak, Jaggery has to be done. Ganesha has to be worshipped with Bilva patra. Offering 21 modaks in nivedan along with other items will give good results. After the pooja again chanting " Om Gam Ganapataye Namah" has to be done.
For Others who do not observe the Vrat : Today is a very good day to start doing Japa to Ketu graha. Performing Ganesha Homa will result in immense auspicious benefits. Chanting any Ganesha stotra is good.
